Abstract

Objective: To describe the current situation of suicidal behavior among inpatients aged 10 to 19 years at the National Institute of Mental Health in 2025 and identify related factors.

Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 157 inpatients aged 10–19 years treated at the National Institute of Mental Health from February 2025 to July 2025. Data were collected using medical records.

Results: Among the participants, 81 patients (51.6%) had suicidal ideation, of whom 40 (25.5%) had attempted suicide. Female patients, those with disharmonious family relationships, or those not living with their parents had a significantly higher risk of suicidal ideation or suicide attempts compared with other groups (p < 0.05).

Conclusion: Suicidal behavior among adolescents is at an alarming level, requiring early intervention and comprehensive psychosocial support for this age group, with particular attention to the family’s role in suicide prevention.
