Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To describe some hematological and biochemical characteristics in patients with hepatitis E hospitalized at Bach Mai Hospital in 2024 - 2025.
Subjects and Methods: 64 patients with hepatitis E treated at the hospital. A descriptive cross-sectional study, with participants selected using convenience sampling from January 2024 to August 2025.
Results and Conclusion: the mean age of patients was 52.0 ± 16.5, males accounted for 57.8% which was higher than females at 42.2% (p > 0.05). The group aged 60 years and older had the highest proportion at 32.8%. The group with liver enzyme elevations from 2 to < 5 times had the highest rates: ALT 23.4%, AST 28.1%, and GGT 39.6%. Total bilirubin was elevated in nearly two-thirds of patients. Direct bilirubin was above normal in 87.5%, with the group showing increases ≥ 30 times being the highest at 30.4%. The proportion of patients with reduced red blood cells compared with normal was 39.1%, reduced hemoglobin 39.3%, reduced platelets 32.8%, and notably 62.5% had decreased lymphocyte percentages. More than half of patients (54.7%) had reduced albumin in blood, 35.6% had reduced prothrombin percentage, 45.8% had increased INR, and 13.5% had reduced fibrinogen. These tests have significant value and meaning in the diagnosis, early detection, and prognosis of patients with hepatitis E.
