CLINICAL AND LABORATORY CHARACTERISTICS IN PATIENTS WITH EPSTEIN-BARR VIRUS INFECTION IMAGES IN BONE MARROW HISTOPATHOLOGY

Abstract
Objective: To describe the clinical and laboratory characteristics in patients exhibiting EBV infection in bone marrow histopathology. Participants and Methods: We conducted a retrospective study on 1987 cases with bone marrow biopsy (January 2022 - April 2023) at Bach Mai Hospital. Results: The bone marrow biopsy showed a total of 82 cases had phagocytosis images suggestive of EBV and detected 69 cases of EBV positive by PCR technique (polymerase chain reaction). EBVpositive patients in addition to having changes in hematological parameters such as a decrease in 1, 2 or 3 lines of peripheral blood cells, other clinical signs such as fever, infection, and lung damage are also recorded. receive. The rate of detection of EBV-positive cells in the bone marrow appears to be slightly higher in immunocompromised individuals (4.5%) than in immunocompetent patients (1.3%). Conclusion: Although phagocytic images in bone marrow biopsies may appear in various disease contexts, certain morphological features can suggest the presence of EBV. Therefore, special attention should be paid during the examination process to assist clinicians in accurately diagnosing EBV infection cases.
