Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the outcomes of platelet apheresis in patients with secondary thrombocytosis. Participants and Methods: This study was conducted on all patients diagnosed with secondary thrombocytosis and treated with therapeutic platelet apheresis at the Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center, Bach Mai Hospital. Data collected included diagnosis, age, gender, and technical parameters of the apheresis procedure. Clinical symptoms were recorded and monitored, along with clinical signs and laboratory results before, during, and after the procedure. Differences in blood cell counts, coagulation parameters, and biochemical indices were analyzed to assess the outcoomes of platelet apheresis. Results: The study included 35 patients, with a male-to-female ratio of 1:2 and a mean age of 64.29 years. The most common clinical diagnosis was infection. After platelet apheresis, platelet count decreased by 40.9%, a statistically significant reduction (p < 0.001). Other indices, including Hb, Hct, PT (%), r-aPTT, Fibrinogen, and several biochemical markers, showed no statistically significant changes. Conclusion: Therapeutic platelet apheresis is an effective, rapid, and safe method for reducing platelet count in patients with secondary thrombocytosis.
