Participants and

Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted at Hanoi Medical University Hospital from July to August 2025. The study sample included 97 patients diagnosed with chronic hepatitis B under treatment. Depression was assessed using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9).

Results: The prevalence of depression among patients with chronic hepatitis B was 34% (33 patients), including minimal depression (23.7%), mild depression (1%), and moderate depression (9.3%). No significant associations were found between depression and factors such as age, gender, economic status, treatment type during the current visit, or health insurance utilization (p > 0.05).

Conclusions: Depression is a common disorder among patients with chronic hepatitis B. Minimal and mild depression accounted for the highest proportion; however, symptoms were often atypical and easily masked by physical complaints. Early detection of depressive symptoms is essential for timely diagnosis and intervention, thereby improving the quality of life in this population.
