Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 50 living-related kidney donors who underwent donor nephrectomy at Viet Duc University Hospital in 2024. HRQoL was measured using the SF-36 questionnaire (8 domains).

Results: The mean overall SF-36 score of the study group was 80.9 ± 9.5 (on a 100-point scale), of which 45/50 cases (90%) were classified as having very good quality of life and 5/50 cases (10%) as good quality of life; no cases were classified as poor. The mean Physical Component Summary (PCS) score was 79.8 ± 10.5, and the mean Mental Component Summary (MCS) score was 81.5 ± 9.8. There was a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) in physical health scores among age and occupation groups , in which the younger age group (20–40 years) had the highest physical health score (85.2), whereas the older age group (≥60 years) had the lowest score (64.7). There was no statistically significant difference in the mean SF-36 score among groups classified by gender, body mass index (p > 0.05).

Conclusion: Living-related kidney donors at Viet Duc Hospital have a generally good health-related quality of life post-donation. The surgical outcomes are favorable and donors maintain good health. The findings support encouraging living donation while ensuring long-term follow-up care for donors.
