Abstract

Introduction: Congenital lateral abdominal wall hernia (LAWH) is an extremely rare condition. Case presentation: We report the case of a 55-year-old male with a lateral abdominal wall mass present since birth, who presented with frequent and progressively worsening pain. Clinical evaluation led to the diagnosis of a lateral abdominal wall hernia associated with an intra-abdominal undescended right testis. The location of the hernia differed from previously described classic entities, such as Spigelian hernia and Lumbar hernia. The patient underwent laparoscopic repair with placement of a prosthetic mesh and right orchiectomy for the intra-abdominal undescended testis. The postoperative course was uneventful, and the patient was discharged on postoperative day 3.

Conclusion: Lateral abdominal wall hernias are rare, and laparoscopic repair has demonstrated excellent clinical results.
